âLily! Lily!â I heard someone yelling my name in my dreams. âLily, get up!â the person yelled once again, followed by a knock on my door.
Thatâs when I knew I was dreaming, and it was for sure happening. âYeah, Iâm up, Iâm up!â I hollered back, wiping my eyes.
âDinner is ready. Donât have your mother and I waiting,â my father ordered.
I rolled my eyes in annoyance. As the days went by, my father started to really get under my skin and ignoring him like I usually did in the past wasnât working.
âIâll be right down,â I replied.
I searched for my phone under my sheets because I knew I had messages from both Tay and Kwon. I also needed to make sure Bliss didnât call or text me to come in earlier than usual.
As soon as I laid eyes on my phone screen, just as I predicted, messages from both Kwon and Taylor; thankfully, none from Bliss. Let me had to go into work early and my father was on a power trip, I wouldnât have heard the last of it.
Checking the messages, I quickly wrote them both back and informed them I had fell asleep, and that I was about to have dinner with the family. Both of them should know to put two and two together that Iâd speak to them afterwards. I got up and made my way to the bathroom to wash my face and brush my teeth. Once finished, I went downstairs to see my parents already seated and obviously waiting for me.
âHi,â I spoke softly, greeting them.
Instead of opening up their mouths like I did, they nodded their head at me like I was some peasant. I had to talk to myself real quick.
Ignore them, just stay positive.
As I sat down, my mother got up and went to take our food out. Meanwhile, my father was side eyeing me for whatever reason. Moments later, she returned to the table, placing our plates in front of us, then took her seat, as usual.
The room was quiet as hell; the only thing heard was the spoon clicking against the plates, chewing, sipping, and the car horns outside. The tension was so thick, you couldâve definitely cut it with a knife, but the question was why?
âHowâs everyone doing?â I asked, trying to break the silence.
âGood,â my mother answered with a smile.
âIâm surprised you even asked that question,â my father retorted.
âWhat? Why?â I looked at him, confused.
âYou donât call us, check on us; it seems like you always want to be out the house and on the go and, if you are home, youâre stuck in your room,â he voiced.
I know this man ainât serious, I thought to myself.
Breathing in and out, I took a minute to gather my thoughts to turn them into appropriate words. âI want to be able to call yâall randomly, or even do outings as a family. I would love to be able to speak to you both about my plans, my thoughts, my emotions, and even when things bother me.
